Fall 2022
Engine Rebuild Mechanical Metal Fabrication WeldingThis project was part of my personal ambition to own and operate the antique tractors used by my Great Grandfather to farm in the 1930's. The tractor was purchased North of Edmonton after spending the majority of its life around Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. This project was also my first mechanical restoration as a member of the Prairie Tractor and Engine Museum Society in Picture Butte, Alberta.
When purchased, the tractor was not in running condition and was in need of a complete engine overhaul. I was able to perform most of the engine machining work myself with the help of knowledgeable members of the society and the use of the museum shop's engine machining tools. With this being my second tractor restoration project, I had a better understanding of what to expect and was able to complete the project without any major setbacks.
I was able to achieve my goal of running the threshing machine during the museums annual Harvest Days festival in August of 2023. I was also able to participate in the Show of Power parade, which showcased 2 John Deere D's as part of the recognition of the 100th anniversary of John Deere D tractors. The tractor receives many compliments from visitors and members as one of few steel wheel tractors in operation at various events throughout the year.
